DT Bag is a purpose-made growing bag designed for use in dripper-fed and hand-watered growing systems that we have been supplying to UK growers since 2017. The DT (drain-to-waste) bag format is designed with optimised drainage characteristics for run-to-waste growing in coco coir or soil-based media — each watering event saturates the growing medium and excess nutrient solution drains freely from the base, preventing waterlogging while flushing accumulated salt build-up from the medium with each irrigation cycle. This run-to-waste approach maintains a fresh, well-balanced nutrient profile at the root zone and is the preferred method of many professional coco growers.
Why Run-to-Waste Growing in DT Bags Produces Consistent Results
In recirculating systems, nutrient solution that has passed through the growing medium and picked up root exudates, mineral deposits and pH-shifting compounds is returned to the reservoir. Over time, these contributions alter the solution chemistry in ways that require active management and periodic complete reservoir changes. In a run-to-waste system using DT bags, fresh nutrient solution is applied at each watering and the runoff discards the accumulated contaminants — maintaining a consistently fresh, precisely calibrated mineral environment at the root zone from the first watering to the last. Growing Media, Sizing and Compatible Systems
Use DT bags with coco coir — optionally blended with 20–30% perlite for improved drainage in large bags — or with a peat-based potting compost. Place bags in drip trays to contain runoff. Suitable for hand-watering and automated drip irrigation systems.
