Description

Purolite Polystyrenic Resin Refill Pack is a replacement ion exchange resin for RAM humidifier water filter systems, used to demineralise and soften the water supplied to ultrasonic humidifiers that are sensitive to the mineral content of hard UK tap water. Protecting Ultrasonic Humidifiers from Hard Water Mineral Damage

Ultrasonic humidifiers produce mist by vibrating water at very high frequency, breaking it into a fine aerosol of microscopic water droplets. When hard water containing calcium and magnesium carbonates is used, these dissolved minerals are released into the air with the water droplets — producing the white powder deposit on leaves, growing equipment and reflective surfaces that is characteristic of hard water humidifier use. This mineral dust is not harmful to plants in small quantities, but accumulated deposits on growing equipment and leaves can affect reflectivity and surface cleanliness over time.

More importantly, the minerals in hard water cause progressive scale build-up on the ultrasonic transducer element of the humidifier — the component that produces the vibrations that generate the mist. Mineral scale reduces the vibration efficiency of the transducer, eventually causing reduced mist output and ultimately transducer failure if not managed. Ion exchange resin removes calcium and magnesium ions from the water before it reaches the humidifier, preventing both the white dust deposit and the scale accumulation that shortens humidifier service life.

Replacement Frequency and Use

Replace the resin according to the manufacturer’s schedule or when the unit begins showing signs of reduced softening effectiveness — typically indicated by returning white mineral deposits on nearby surfaces. The polystyrenic resin in this pack provides a full renewal of the RAM humidifier filter’s ion exchange capacity. Follow the filter housing instructions for safe resin replacement.
