Description

AutoPot Airbase Square is an aeration accessory for the AutoPot gravity-fed growing system that introduces air into the base of the growing container, preventing the stagnant, anaerobic conditions that can develop at the bottom of larger pots in passive watering systems. We have been recommending AutoPot systems and accessories to UK growers since 2017, and the Airbase represents an important upgrade for growers running larger pot volumes in their AutoPot setup.

Solving the Passive System Aeration Challenge

In passive, gravity-fed growing systems like AutoPot, the root zone environment at the base of the pot is maintained by the periodic wetting and drying cycle controlled by the AQUAvalve. However, in larger containers — particularly 15-litre and 25-litre AutoPot XL pots — the sheer volume of growing medium between the tray and the top of the pot can make it difficult for air to re-enter the bottom of the medium efficiently between watering cycles. This can create zones of reduced oxygen availability near the base of the pot, where the AQUAvalve delivers nutrient solution, potentially limiting root health and nutrient uptake in the most nutrient-dense zone of the growing medium.

The AutoPot Airbase replaces the standard solid pot base with an aerated platform that introduces air through the base of the growing container. Connected to a small air pump via airline tubing, it continuously circulates air at the pot base, maintaining oxygen availability in the root zone even during and immediately after irrigation events when the base of the medium is most saturated.

Setup and Compatibility

The Airbase fits the standard AutoPot square pot tray configurations. Connect to a small air pump using standard airline tubing. The power requirement is minimal — a small, low-wattage diaphragm pump is sufficient for one to four Airbases simultaneously. Compatible with soil, coco and AutoPot-recommended growing media.
