Description
The Exhale CO2 Bag is a self-activating carbon dioxide generator that continuously releases CO2 into your grow room without any canisters, timers, or complicated equipment. It uses a cultivated mycelium culture growing on organic substrate to produce a steady stream of CO2 through natural biological respiration — exactly the way plants evolved to receive it.
How the Exhale CO2 Bag Works
Inside the bag, a living colony of mycelium metabolises the organic substrate and releases CO2 as a by-product. This process happens continuously, 24 hours a day, throughout the bag’s active lifespan of up to six months. Unlike bottled CO2 systems that require careful monitoring and equipment investment, the Exhale bag is entirely passive. Hang it in your grow space and let it work. The breathable membrane allows CO2 to diffuse outward while preventing contamination from entering and disrupting the mycelium culture. It requires no electricity, no refills, and no maintenance. At The Horticulture Company, we recommend Exhale CO2 bags to growers running spaces up to approximately 1.2m x 1.2m. For larger rooms, multiple bags or a dedicated CO2 enrichment system delivers more consistent results.
The Benefits of CO2 Enrichment for Plants
Plants use CO2, water, and light to produce energy through photosynthesis. Ambient CO2 levels in normal air sit around 400 parts per million (ppm). Raising this to 1,000 to 1,500 ppm in a sealed grow environment can accelerate growth rates significantly and improve final yields, provided light and nutrient levels are adequate to support the increased metabolic demand. The Exhale bag raises CO2 levels modestly but consistently. Rather than spiking CO2 levels and then letting them crash, it maintains a gentle elevation that keeps plants performing at a higher baseline throughout the growth cycle. Hang the bag near the top of your grow space, above the plant canopy. CO2 is heavier than air, so it falls naturally through the canopy from above, reaching leaf surfaces where uptake occurs. Keep it away from direct airflow from fans, which will disperse CO2 before it can accumulate. Allow the bag to activate for 24 to 48 hours before expecting maximum CO2 output — the mycelium culture takes a short time to establish peak respiration after the bag is opened.
