Description
FLORAKLEEN 1 LITRE is General Hydroponics’ professional system flushing and salt-clearing solution, widely used by UK growers to clean growing media and system components between cycles and as a final pre-harvest flush. We have been recommending FloraKleen to hydroponics growers since 2017 because its citric acid chelation technology effectively dissolves and mobilises the mineral salt deposits that accumulate in rockwool, coco, NFT channels, and recirculating systems over a full growing cycle — restoring the clean, salt-free environment that roots need for optimum performance.
How FloraKleen Clears Mineral Salt Deposits
Over a growing cycle, residual mineral salts from nutrient solution accumulate in the growing medium matrix, binding to substrate particles and lining the walls of NFT channels and recirculating system components. Plain water irrigation can remove free ions from solution but does not break the bonds holding precipitated salts to surfaces. FloraKleen’s citric acid-based formulation chelates these bound minerals — essentially wrapping the calcium, magnesium, and phosphate ions in organic acids that make them soluble and removable in the flush water. A FloraKleen flush used at cycle end cleans the system to a level that significantly reduces the mineral build-up in system components and substrate that would otherwise carry over to the next crop.
Application for Mid-Cycle Rescue and Final Flushing
Use FloraKleen at 5ml per litre as a preventative treatment once per month to control salt accumulation in active systems, and at the full 5ml per litre rate for the final 7–10 days of the growing cycle as a pre-harvest flush. For system cleaning between cycles, run FloraKleen solution at 10ml per litre through empty NFT channels and recirculating systems for 30–60 minutes, then flush with clean water before refilling with fresh nutrient solution. The 1-litre bottle treats approximately 200 litres of flush water at the 5ml/L dose.
Use FloraKleen 1 Litre as part of a complete grow room hygiene routine alongside Pythoff reservoir treatment and a quality EC pen for monitoring salt clearance through the flushing process.
