Description
JELLYFISH 10G is the compact, multi-arm air stone designed to produce exceptionally fine, well-distributed bubbles throughout a DWC reservoir or propagation tank. We have been recommending Jellyfish air stones to UK hydroponics growers since 2017 because bubble size and distribution quality are directly linked to dissolved oxygen efficiency — and the Jellyfish design, with its multiple radial outlet arms, creates a broader oxygenation footprint than a single disc or bar stone of similar volume.
Why Bubble Quality Affects Dissolved Oxygen Delivery
Fine bubbles have a larger total surface area per unit of air volume than large bubbles, and they rise more slowly through the water column, giving longer contact time between the air and the solution for oxygen transfer. The Jellyfish air stone’s fine-pored diffuser material produces consistently small bubbles from each of its multiple arms, maximising the surface area and contact time of the air as it rises through the nutrient solution. The radial arm design also distributes these fine bubbles across a wider area of the reservoir base compared to a single-point disc stone, providing more even dissolved oxygen distribution throughout the root zone — particularly important in larger reservoirs where a single central air stone creates an oxygen gradient from the centre outward.
Maintenance and Service Life
Rinse the Jellyfish air stone in a 5% citric acid solution every four to six weeks to remove mineral scale that blocks the diffuser pores and reduces bubble quality over time. A stone that produces fewer, larger bubbles than when new is due for a citric acid clean or replacement. Replace when cleaning no longer restores fine bubble output — typically after three to six months in hard water areas. Keep spare Jellyfish air stones available so reduced aeration performance never coincides with a critical phase of plant development.
Use the Jellyfish 10g air stone with a quality air pump, 4mm airline, and your preferred DWC base nutrient for a well-oxygenated root zone that drives fast growth and prevents the pythium conditions that cause root rot in under-aerated systems.
