Description
Anti Syphon Valve (1/2″ MBSP) Threaded is a simple but vital component for any drip-fed or gravity-fed hydroponic irrigation system. We have been supplying anti-syphon valves to UK growers since 2017 as a reliable way to prevent unwanted back-flow that can cause root zone flooding or contamination between reservoirs.
What an Anti Syphon Valve Does
When a pump in a hydroponic system shuts off, gravity can cause nutrient solution to continue flowing through the irrigation lines — a process known as siphoning. Without a check valve or anti-syphon device in place, this can result in flooding the root zone, waterlogging your growing medium, or allowing stagnant water to back-flow into your main reservoir. The Anti Syphon Valve prevents this entirely by closing automatically the moment flow pressure drops below a set threshold.
The 1/2″ MBSP (Male British Standard Pipe) threaded connection makes this valve compatible with a wide range of irrigation fittings, manifolds and pump outlets commonly used in UK grow rooms. Installation is straightforward — thread it directly into your existing pipework without the need for specialist tools or plumbing knowledge.
Installation and Compatibility
This valve is rated for use with standard nutrient solutions at typical grow room temperatures. For best results, install it at the lowest point in your irrigation line or directly at the pump outlet, where siphoning pressure is greatest. It suits drip irrigation systems, flood-and-drain setups, and any gravity-fed system where flow control is needed after pump shutdown.
Pair with compatible irrigation pipe, drip stakes, and manifolds available in our fittings range. For larger systems using multiple feed points, consider installing an anti-syphon valve at each pump outlet for complete protection. A small component that prevents a significant and frustrating problem.
