BioBizz LeafCoat 500ml is a natural, latex-based foliar plant protector that we have been supplying to UK organic growers since 2017. Derived from natural rubber tree latex, LeafCoat forms a thin, breathable film on treated leaf surfaces that physically protects plants against spider mites, fungal spores and environmental stressors while remaining fully safe for plants, people and beneficial insects. It is approved for use in organic growing systems and on edible crops, making it an excellent preventive tool in any IPM programme where chemical pesticide use is restricted.

How BioBizz LeafCoat Physically Protects Leaves

When sprayed onto leaf surfaces and allowed to dry, the natural latex in LeafCoat forms an ultra-thin, semi-permeable coating over the leaf epidermis. This coating does not block gas exchange through stomata — the plant can continue to photosynthesize and transpire normally — but it does present a physical barrier against spider mite stylets (the piercing mouthparts they use to puncture leaf cells) and against fungal spore germination on the leaf surface. Spider mites cannot penetrate the latex film to feed, and airborne spores landing on treated leaves cannot establish in the waxy layer they normally use for germ tube penetration. As a preventive tool applied before pest or disease pressure develops, LeafCoat interrupts the establishment phase — the period when intervention is most effective and least resource-intensive.

Application Rate, Timing and Programme Integration

Dilute BioBizz LeafCoat at 10–20 ml per litre and apply as a fine, even foliar spray to all leaf surfaces. Apply during lights-off or low-light conditions. Repeat every 7–14 days as a preventive measure throughout vegetative growth. The latex coating degrades naturally over 7–10 days, requiring regular reapplication for continuous protection. Do not apply during flowering. Compatible with the full BioBizz organic nutrient range and with most beneficial insect IPM programmes.
