Why NFT Produces Exceptional Vegetative Growth Rates

Nutrient Film Technique works on a principle that maximises both nutrient availability and root zone oxygenation simultaneously. A shallow, continuously flowing film of nutrient solution passes across the upper surface of plant root mats in angled growing channels, delivering dissolved nutrients directly to the root surface in constant contact. Crucially, the film is thin enough that the lower portion of the root mat is exposed to air within the channel — combining nutrient availability at the root surface with direct atmospheric oxygen exposure at the root interior. This combination of dissolved nutrient and direct oxygen availability at the same root zone drives the explosive vegetative growth rates that experienced NFT growers consistently report. Setup, Nutrient Management, and Getting Started with NFT

Set up the GT205 NFT system on a level surface, angled slightly to ensure the nutrient film flows consistently from the inlet to the return end. Connect the pump to the nutrient reservoir, set the flow rate to maintain a thin, consistent film (not a flood) in the channel, and position plant net pots in the channel slots with root cubes making contact with the channel floor to bridge to the flowing film. Use coco or rockwool propagation cubes for plant establishment — both work well in NFT. Maintain EC and pH within the target ranges appropriate for the growth stage, replacing the full reservoir every seven to ten days to maintain fresh nutrient balance. NFT works best with fast-growing plants that develop extensive root mats — avoid particularly large-rooted varieties that can block channel flow.
