House & Garden Multizyme is a professional-grade enzymatic root zone cleaner and growth enhancer that we have been recommending to UK hydroponic and coco growers since 2017. Developed by House & Garden — one of the Netherlands’ most respected nutrient companies with decades of commercial horticultural R&D behind their formulations — Multizyme delivers a concentrated blend of enzymes including cellulase, protease and glucanase that break down dead root matter, protect the living root zone from pathogen colonisation and release the simple sugars and amino acids locked in dead organic material back into the nutrient solution for re-absorption.

The Science of Enzymatic Root Zone Management

In any active growing system, a proportion of root tissue dies and accumulates in the growing medium throughout the crop cycle. In organic systems, this dead matter feeds pathogens and blocks oxygen diffusion around active roots. In hydroponic and coco systems, decomposing root material creates anaerobic micro-zones where Pythium and Fusarium thrive — even when the bulk of the nutrient solution is well-oxygenated and at correct pH. Multizyme’s enzyme complex targets the cell walls of dead root tissue specifically, hydrolyising them into soluble sugars that are then available to the plant and to beneficial microorganisms. This constant housekeeping prevents the accumulation of dead organic matter that creates pathogen pressure, maintains open, oxygen-rich root channels and effectively extends the productive life of the root system into late flowering when unmanaged roots typically begin to deteriorate.

Application Rate and Programme Integration

Use House & Garden Multizyme at 1–2 ml per litre throughout all growth stages from early vegetative growth to the end of flush. It is compatible with all growing media and integrates cleanly with all House & Garden nutrient ranges — Soil, Coco and Hydro A&B — as well as most third-party nutrient programmes. Add Multizyme to the reservoir after base nutrients and before pH adjustment.
