Description
Newa Therm Next Submersible Water Heater is a precision aquatic heater that we have been supplying to UK hydroponic and aquaponic growers since 2017 for maintaining optimal nutrient solution temperatures in reservoirs and recirculating systems. Root zone temperature is a critical and frequently overlooked variable in hydroponic growing — too cold and enzyme activity slows, nutrient uptake declines and the risk of Pythium infection increases; too warm and dissolved oxygen levels drop and pathogen activity spikes. The Newa Therm Next provides reliable, accurate temperature control to keep your reservoir in the optimal 18–22°C range year-round.
Why Reservoir Temperature Control Matters in Hydroponics
Most grow rooms focus heavily on air temperature and humidity while neglecting nutrient solution temperature — but plant roots are every bit as sensitive to temperature as the aerial parts of the plant. At solution temperatures below 16°C, phosphorus uptake is significantly impaired even when solution EC and pH are correct, leading to visible deficiency symptoms that are frequently misdiagnosed as feed problems. Conversely, solutions above 24°C lose dissolved oxygen rapidly and create conditions ideal for water mould pathogens including Pythium. The Newa Therm Next uses a high-precision thermostat and robust heating element to maintain set temperature within ±0.5°C, giving you the confidence of a stable root zone throughout every cycle regardless of ambient conditions.
Installation and Sizing Guide
Fully submersible, the Newa Therm Next installs directly into your reservoir or water butt using the supplied suction cup bracket. Select the wattage appropriate for your reservoir volume — as a guide, 50W suits up to 50 litres, 100W up to 100 litres in a reasonably insulated environment. Set the thermostat dial to your target temperature and allow 30 minutes for the solution to equilibrate before checking. Combine with a reservoir thermometer to verify calibration on first use. For large reservoirs in cold environments, use in conjunction with reservoir insulation to improve heater efficiency. Pair with a Hailea air pump and air stones to maintain dissolved oxygen levels alongside stable temperature.
