Not all bamboo stakes are equal. Cheap, thin-walled canes split, snap at the nodes, or rot quickly in damp growing environments. Our 120cm bamboo stakes are cut from mature bamboo with thick, dense walls that resist splitting even when training wire or plant clips apply lateral pressure. The natural taper gives a firm anchor point at the base while the upper section remains flexible enough to absorb movement without snapping. Training and Support Techniques With Bamboo

Push stakes firmly into the growing medium close to the main stem, angled very slightly away from the plant to lean the cane into the stem as it grows. Secure the stem every 20–30cm of vertical growth using soft plant ties, twist ties, or grafting tape — never wire directly against the stem. For manifolding or low-stress training, use multiple stakes arranged around the outside of the pot to create a framework over which trained branches can be spread horizontally. In outdoor raised beds and polytunnels, bamboo stakes at 120cm support the heaviest fruiting branches on determinate tomatoes and are the standard choice for cucumber training up string systems.
