Description
Fabric Pots in Grey are a premium growing container manufactured from a breathable, non-woven fabric that fundamentally improves root zone health compared to standard plastic pots. The air-permeable walls of fabric pots allow oxygen to reach the root zone from all sides — not just through the surface irrigation and drainage holes — creating the highly oxygenated root environment that drives vigorous plant development. The fabric also prevents the root circling and root-bound conditions that limit yields in rigid plastic containers, replacing them with the natural air pruning process that continually regenerates healthy, active root tips.
Air Pruning: The Core Advantage of Fabric Pots
In a standard plastic pot, roots grow outward until they reach the pot wall. With no further growing space, they turn and grow along the inside of the pot wall in a circular pattern — eventually becoming a dense, matted mass of circling roots that is progressively less efficient at nutrient and water uptake. In a fabric pot, roots reaching the air-permeable wall are exposed to air and dehydrate at their tips — a process called air pruning. This natural tip death stimulates the formation of multiple new lateral roots behind the pruning point. The result is a densely branched root system with many active, nutrient-absorbing root tips rather than a few long, circling, semi-dormant ones. This root architecture is fundamentally more efficient at feeding the plant above. We have been recommending fabric pots to our customers at The Horticulture Company since 2017. The evidence for their benefit in yield and plant health is consistent across soil, coco, and perlite growing.
Sizing, the Grey Colour Choice, and Practical Maintenance
Available in a range of sizes to accommodate plants at every stage, from small propagation containers to large final flowering pots. The grey colour of this range is a practical choice for grow rooms — it is neutral enough not to reflect excess light onto lower growth when positioned in rows, while absorbing less heat than darker colours in warmer environments. Fabric pots are reusable — rinse thoroughly between cycles, allow to dry fully, and they are ready for the next use. The fabric is durable enough for multiple growing cycles under normal use conditions.
