Description
Terra Aquatica Final Part (Ripen) is a highly specialised end-of-cycle nutrient product from Terra Aquatica (formerly General Hydroponics Europe) formulated to accelerate and complete the ripening process in the final two weeks before harvest. Ripen has a unique formulation approach — it provides a high mineral concentration that stimulates the plant to cease vegetative nutrient uptake and redirect its metabolic resources toward the completion of flower maturation and the accumulation of the secondary compounds that determine harvest quality.
The Ripen Approach to Harvest Preparation
Standard growing practice uses a plain water flush in the final weeks before harvest to encourage plants to deplete their stored mineral nutrients. Ripen takes a different approach — rather than providing zero nutrients, it provides a very high concentration of a specific mineral profile that triggers a ripening response in the plant. The high osmotic pressure and specific mineral balance of Ripen communicates to the plant that resource inputs are being exhausted — a signal that in natural plant physiology triggers the completion of seed maturation and the prioritisation of ripening over continued growth. This response produces faster, more complete ripening than plain water flushing alone, and results in a more uniform completion of the harvest across the entire canopy. Terra Aquatica’s research into Ripen is backed by their GHE group parent company’s decades of professional hydroponic research. At The Horticulture Company we have been recommending Ripen to growers who want to maximise the completeness and quality of their harvest for many years, and the feedback on the product’s ripening effect has been consistently positive.
How to Use Terra Aquatica Final Part Ripen
Replace your standard base nutrient with Ripen in the final one to two weeks before harvest. Use at 15–25ml per 10 litres of water as the sole nutrient input during this period. Adjust pH to your medium’s optimal range. Flush with clean water for the final three to five days before harvest to remove residual Ripen and ensure a clean finish.
