Description

The Osram Plantastar 600W is a high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamp from Germany’s Osram — one of the world’s most respected manufacturers of professional horticultural and industrial discharge lamps. The 600W output is the sweet spot of the HPS lighting range for indoor growing, offering the highest achievable photon efficiency among HPS wattages while delivering the light output needed to flower a 1.2m x 1.2m canopy effectively. Osram Plantastar is the go-to lamp specification for discerning growers who require consistent, reliable output and proven photosynthetic performance over a full 18-month service life.

Plantastar is formulated with a spectral output biased toward the orange-red end of the visible spectrum (580-700nm) — the wavelength range most efficiently absorbed by chlorophyll A during the flowering phase. This red-heavy spectrum makes it an outstanding flowering lamp, driving bud development, increasing resin production, and maximising the photosynthetically active radiation absorbed by the canopy per watt of electrical input. The Plantastar lamp achieves significantly higher luminous efficacy than cheaper HPS alternatives, delivering more PAR per watt and providing a genuinely measurable yield benefit over a full grow cycle.

The 600W Plantastar is compatible with all quality 600W magnetic and digital ballasts. For best performance, pair with a quality wing reflector and replace the lamp after 18 months of use at 18-hour vegetative schedules or 12 months of 12/12 flowering use, as lumen output gradually declines even when the lamp appears to be functioning.
