Traditional single-ended HPS lamps connect at one point, which limits the arc tube’s mechanical stability and means the arc can sag over time, reducing efficiency and causing spectral shifts. Double-ended lamps connect at both ends, holding the arc tube under tension and maintaining precise arc geometry throughout the lamp’s service life. This translates to more consistent PPFD output from month one to month ten, better colour rendering across the full spectrum, and higher initial lumen output compared to equivalent single-ended lamps. Ballast and Reflector Compatibility

Compatible reflectors include dedicated DE models from Adjust-A-Wings, Lumatek, and Gavita in the 400W range. Always use a digital ballast matched to the lamp’s wattage for best efficiency and lamp life. Replace DE lamps every 10,000 hours or after 12 months of operation, whichever is sooner, as output degradation in the final months of lamp life represents poor return on electricity cost relative to a fresh replacement.
