Even with a well-maintained carbon filter extraction system, grow room odours can occasionally escape — particularly during tent opening, maintenance sessions or when filters are nearing the end of their life. Air fresheners and odour neutralisers provide a secondary line of defence, addressing ambient odour in the room outside your growing space and providing additional odour management during those unavoidable moments of direct access.
Odour Neutralisers vs Masking Products
There is an important distinction between odour neutralisers and simple masking fragrances. Masking products add a competing scent that temporarily covers the original odour — effective in the short term but not a genuine solution. True odour neutralisers work by chemically reacting with odour molecules and breaking them down or encapsulating them, eliminating the source rather than covering it. For grow room applications, neutralising products are always preferable to masking fragrances.
Gel and liquid odour neutralisers are placed in the room surrounding the grow tent to absorb ambient odour molecules passively. They are effective for low-level background odour management and require no power or maintenance beyond periodic replacement. Use them in the room where your tent is housed to address any residual odour that bypasses your extraction system.
Ozone Generators and ONA Products
ONA (Odour Neutralising Agent) is one of the most popular product ranges for grow room odour control, available in gel, spray and liquid forms. ONA products contain naturally derived terpene compounds that react with and neutralise a broad range of organic odour molecules. Place ONA gel in a bowl with a small fan blowing across it for active dispersion throughout the surrounding room.
