Bamboo Stakes 180cm are professional-quality natural bamboo canes that we have been supplying to UK growers since 2017 for supporting tall plants, training stems to vertical growing positions and constructing simple trellis frameworks in grow rooms, greenhouses and outdoor growing areas. At 180cm, these stakes are among the tallest available for single-plant support applications — providing the full-height support that tall-growing cultivars, indeterminate tomatoes, climbing crops and large-flowered plants require when trained vertically to maximise light exposure and canopy airflow.

Why Bamboo Stakes Are the Grower’s Standard Plant Support

Bamboo has been used as a plant support material for centuries, and for good reason — it combines excellent strength-to-weight ratio, natural flexibility under load (which prevents the sudden catastrophic failure that rigid stakes can cause when a heavy plant sways in wind or under its own weight), and sufficient surface texture for twine and ties to grip without slipping. At 180cm, a pair of stakes can support a large-canopied plant through its full height from substrate level to the growing tip without splicing or joining. Bamboo’s natural surface characteristics also allow twist-ties, plant clips and soft ties to be positioned at any height without sliding down the smooth stake surface — a practical advantage in training situations where support position needs to be precise and stable.

Applications, Spacing and Compatible Training Accessories

Use bamboo stakes singly for individual stem support, in pairs forming a V-frame for multi-stemmed plants, or in multiples connected with horizontal canes or trellis netting for area support frameworks. Insert stakes into growing medium at least 15–20cm deep for stability — deeper in lightweight media like perlite or loose coco. Secure stems to stakes using Stick-On Zips, soft plant ties or natural jute twine for the gentlest contact with plant tissue. For canopy-wide horizontal support, combine stakes with trellis netting suspended between canes for a simple, effective SCROG frame.
