Description
Canna 60/40 Coco/Clay Pebble 50 Litre is a professionally pre-mixed growing medium from Canna combining 60% buffered coco coir with 40% clay pebbles (expanded clay aggregate), providing an exceptionally well-aerated, free-draining substrate suited to high-frequency watering and hydroponic-style growing approaches in coco medium. We have been recommending Canna growing media to UK growers since 2017 as a consistently high-quality, professionally formulated substrate from one of the world’s most respected hydroponic nutrient and substrate brands.
Superior Aeration Through the 60/40 Mix
The 40% clay pebble fraction in Canna’s 60/40 mix creates a significantly more open, aerated structure than straight coco coir or even a standard 70/30 coco perlite mix. Clay pebbles — fired expanded clay aggregate — do not absorb water significantly themselves, providing structural support and large inter-particle air pockets that drain almost completely between watering events. This rapid drainage and re-aeration allows for very high watering frequencies — multiple feeds per day in recirculating or dripper systems — which maximises the frequency of nutrient delivery to the root zone and drives exceptional growth rates in the hands of experienced growers.
The 60% buffered coco fraction is pre-washed and calcium-buffered to Canna’s rigorous specifications, ensuring no cation exchange-driven deficiencies or sodium excess issues that affect lower-quality coco products. The blend is physically stable and maintains consistent air-to-water ratio throughout the growing cycle without the compaction that pure coco can experience over successive waterings.
System Compatibility and Nutrient Programme
Well-suited for use in dripper systems, AutoPot configurations, and hand-watered approaches with high irrigation frequency. Compatible with all coco-specific base nutrients. Use with Canna Coco A&B or any quality two-part coco nutrient alongside a calcium-magnesium supplement at the appropriate dose. Maintain pH at 5.8–6.2 throughout. An excellent, professionally formulated growing medium for performance-focused UK cultivators.
