Description

Carbo Load is a carbohydrate supplement used during the flowering stage to provide plants with additional simple and complex carbohydrates that fuel the metabolic activity of flower development and support the beneficial microorganism populations in biologically active growing media. We have been recommending carbohydrate supplements to UK growers since 2017 as a productive addition to intensive flowering programmes aimed at maximising both yield weight and quality.

The Role of Carbohydrates in Flowering Nutrition

Plants produce carbohydrates through photosynthesis, but during the intensive flower development phase, the metabolic demand for sugars, starches and energy substrates can exceed what photosynthesis alone can supply under standard grow room conditions. Supplementing with Carbo Load provides an external carbohydrate source that reduces the plant’s reliance on self-produced sugars for fuelling flower metabolism, potentially freeing more photosynthate for direct incorporation into flower mass, terpenes and resins rather than basic metabolic maintenance.

In soil and coco growing with beneficial microorganism populations, carbohydrate supplements also serve as a direct food source for the bacteria and fungi in the root zone. Keeping beneficial rhizosphere organisms well-fed with carbohydrate substrates supports their population density and metabolic activity — which in turn improves mineral cycling and nutrient availability to the plant throughout the bloom phase.

Application and Programme Integration

Apply Carbo Load from week two of flowering through to the start of your flush week. Use at the manufacturer’s recommended dose alongside your base nutrient programme. It stacks effectively with PK boosters, amino acid supplements and bloom stimulators without significantly affecting EC — pure carbohydrate products typically add minimal mineral load to your nutrient solution.
