Decision 946ml is a professional plant growth regulator and canopy management solution that we have been supplying to UK commercial and serious hobby growers since 2017. Decision contains paclobutrazol — a plant growth regulator that inhibits gibberellin biosynthesis, reducing internode elongation and producing more compact, stockier plant structure. It is used by professional growers to control excessive vertical growth during the vegetative phase or the early stretch of flowering, improving canopy management and maximising the proportion of the plant within the optimal light zone of the grow room.

How Paclobutrazol Controls Plant Height and Internode Length

Gibberellins are plant hormones that drive cell elongation in internodal tissue — the sections of stem between each node. Excessive gibberellin activity produces tall, spindly plants with long internodes that are difficult to manage in enclosed grow rooms and concentrate less plant mass within the optimal light intensity zone. Paclobutrazol inhibits the cytochrome P450 enzyme responsible for gibberellin biosynthesis, reducing the gibberellin signal that would otherwise drive excessive elongation. The result is a compact plant with shorter internodes, thicker stems and a canopy that stays within the high-intensity zone of the grow light rather than stretching toward it and reducing light utilisation efficiency. At correct rates, Decision does not affect lateral growth, leaf size or flower development — only internode length is meaningfully reduced.

Application, Rates and Important Usage Notes

Decision is a potent plant growth regulator and must be used with care. Apply as a drench to the root zone at the manufacturer’s recommended rate — do not exceed the stated dosage as paclobutrazol persists in plant and growing medium tissue for extended periods and overdosing can cause prolonged growth inhibition that affects flowering timing and quality. Do not apply during flowering. Decision is most effective when applied in early to mid-vegetative growth to control stretch before it becomes a problem. Always wear appropriate PPE when handling. For canopy management without chemical growth regulators, consider training techniques such as LST (low-stress training), topping or SCROG in combination with the correct vegetative growth period length.
