Description

GAS EC installations use a daisy-chain network topology — each device connects to the next in a line. The final device in that chain needs a terminator to prevent signal reflection on the cable, which causes communication errors between the master controller and the devices. The GAS EC Terminator plugs into the open EC connector on the last device in the chain and completes the network correctly.

Every GAS EC installation requires exactly one terminator at the far end of the network. If you’re expanding an existing GAS installation by adding devices beyond the current terminator position, relocate the terminator to the new end device. Operating a GAS network without a terminator on a long cable run can cause intermittent control issues that are difficult to diagnose without knowing the terminator is missing.

It’s easy to overlook the terminator in a GAS EC installation because, unlike a sensor or controller, it has no visible function during normal operation — there’s no display, no reading, nothing that confirms it’s doing its job beyond the network simply working correctly. That makes it one of the more common oversights when growers assemble a GAS system from individual components rather than a pre-configured kit, since every other device in the chain has an obvious purpose while the terminator’s role is easy to miss until intermittent faults start appearing. If you’re experiencing unexplained communication issues on a GAS network — sensors dropping out, delayed readings, or a controller failing to recognise a connected device — checking that a terminator is correctly fitted at the end of the chain is one of the first things worth ruling out before assuming a faulty component elsewhere in the system.

Keep a spare terminator in your parts box once you’ve identified the correct type for your system — it’s an inexpensive component to have on hand, and confirming a suspected terminator fault takes seconds if you can simply swap it rather than ordering a replacement and waiting.

At a glance:

  • Terminates the final device in a GAS EC daisy-chain network
  • Prevents signal reflection and communication errors
  • Exactly one required per installation
  • Relocate when expanding an existing network
