Description

Gold Label Hydrocorn 45 Litre is a premium expanded clay growing medium that we have been supplying to UK hydroponic growers since 2017. Produced by Gold Label — a respected Dutch horticultural substrate brand with a long track record in professional growing — Hydrocorn clay pebbles are manufactured to exacting specifications for size consistency, surface porosity and chemical neutrality. As one of the most reliable and reusable growing media available, Hydrocorn is the substrate of choice for flood and drain, DWC, drip irrigation, NFT and mixed growing systems where root zone aeration and drainage are paramount.

Gold Label Hydrocorn vs Generic Clay Pebbles

The quality difference between premium and budget clay pebbles becomes apparent in growing performance over multiple crop cycles. Cheaper pebbles often vary in size, density and surface texture from bag to bag — inconsistencies that create uneven drainage and aeration profiles in the growing container and reduce the substrate’s performance relative to stated specifications. Gold Label Hydrocorn is produced from Dutch clay with strict quality control over the kiln-firing temperature and duration that determine pebble density, internal porosity and surface smoothness. The consistent 8–16mm size range delivers a predictable and reproducible growing medium that performs identically whether you are filling a single 15-litre pot or a commercial-scale tray array with hundreds of kilograms of substrate. The smoother outer surface and controlled internal porosity of Hydrocorn hold a thin moisture film between irrigations without retaining water to the point of anaerobic saturation.

Preparation, Reuse and Compatible Systems

Pre-soak Hydrocorn in pH 5.5–6.0 water for 12–24 hours before first use to stabilise pH and hydrate the porous structure. Rinse thoroughly. Reuse across multiple crop cycles by washing in warm water and sterilising with dilute hydrogen peroxide or a dedicated substrate cleaning product between crops. The 45-litre bag is the most economical format for filling multiple large containers. Compatible with all nutrient systems including CANNA Aqua, SHOGUN Samurai Hydro and House & Garden Aqua Flakes.
