Description

GT 150 BLACK TOP PLATE is the light-absorbing replacement lid for the Nutriculture GT 150 compact NFT propagation and growing system. We have been supplying Nutriculture system spares to UK growers since 2017, and the black top plate is the light-proofing variant for growers who prefer a black component profile in their growing environment or who find the absorbing surface prevents light scatter that the white plate version would redirect.

Black vs White for the GT 150: Making the Right Choice

Both the black and white GT 150 top plates perform identically in their primary function — excluding light from the nutrient reservoir below to prevent algae growth. The choice between them is largely aesthetic and situational. The black surface absorbs grow room lamp light rather than reflecting it, which in a very small space can reduce the light available at the base of the canopy by a marginal amount but prevents potentially confusing light scatter that the white plate can create at low angles. In compact growing setups where the lamp-to-canopy distance is close and any scattered light from the system below the canopy could reach the underside of lower leaves, the black plate creates a cleaner light environment. Both versions are equally effective at light exclusion when seated correctly on the GT 150 reservoir body.

Fitting, Cleaning, and Replacement

The GT 150 black top plate fits the same way as the white version — it seats onto the reservoir body with a friction fit and should be fully pressed home around the perimeter to eliminate gaps. Clean at every cycle changeover with dilute bleach or Oxy-Plus solution, rinse thoroughly, and inspect for cracks especially around the net pot holes. Black plastic can absorb more heat from grow room lighting than white, making it slightly more susceptible to thermal warping in high-heat environments — check for warping at the plate edges during summer operation and replace if gaps appear.

Keep the GT 150 Black Top Plate alongside the GT 150 White Top Plate, replacement net pots, and Nutriculture-compatible base nutrients for a complete, professionally maintained compact growing system ready for every new cycle.
