Description
Linx Seedling LED is a dedicated propagation and seedling lighting system designed to deliver the ideal spectrum and intensity for germination, early seedling development, and clone rooting without the heat, intensity, or cost associated with larger grow lights. We have been recommending targeted seedling LEDs to UK growers since 2017 as the smart way to give young plants the best possible start — the right light at the right intensity from day one makes a measurable difference to the quality of plants that emerge from propagation into the main growing environment.
Why the Linx Seedling LED Outperforms Generic Propagation Lighting
Seedlings and cuttings have fundamentally different light requirements to mature vegetating or flowering plants. High intensity light can overwhelm young seedlings, causing bleaching, leaf curl, and stress at a stage when plants are most vulnerable. The Linx Seedling LED is optimised for the lower PPFD levels that promote efficient photosynthesis without stress in emerging seedlings and rooting cuttings — typically 100–250 µmol/m²/s, compared to the 400–800+ levels used in vegetative growth. The spectral output emphasises blue wavelengths that drive compact, dense seedling development and discourage the etiolated, stretching growth that occurs when seedlings are light-starved, along with sufficient red content to support healthy chlorophyll development and the early establishment of vigorous root systems. LED technology keeps operating temperatures low, which is particularly important in enclosed propagation environments where excess heat accelerates moisture loss and can kill cuttings.
How to Set Up and Use the Linx Seedling LED
Position the Linx Seedling LED above your propagation tray or seedling area according to the manufacturer’s recommendations — typically 15–30cm above the top of the plug or cube surface. Run on an 18/6 or 20/4 light schedule for seedlings, or 24 hours continuous light for cuttings to accelerate rooting. Maintain humidity at 70–85% under a propagator dome and temperature at 24–26°C for optimum results. Once seedlings show their second set of true leaves or cuttings have rooted and started growing away, transition to your main vegetative lighting at gradually increasing distances to harden off plants before full exposure.
The Linx Seedling LED pairs perfectly with a propagator tray and dome, heat mat, Clonex gel, and Formulex starter nutrient for a complete, professional propagation station that maximises germination and rooting success rates.
