Description
POLY GLOVES are the lightweight, disposable polyethylene gloves that provide basic hand protection for dry and light-duty grow room tasks including handling growing media, applying granular nutrients, and general plant work where skin contact with mildly irritating substances is a consideration. We have been supplying protective gloves to UK growers since 2017 as part of a practical approach to grow room hygiene and personal protection.
When Poly Gloves Are the Right Choice for Grow Room Work
Different grow room tasks call for different levels of hand protection. For work with concentrated chemical cleaners, liquid pesticide concentrates, and pH adjustment acids, nitrile or latex chemical-resistant gloves are the appropriate choice. For lighter tasks — handling peat-based growing media, applying granular nutrients, transplanting, or general plant handling — poly gloves provide a practical, comfortable, and disposable barrier that keeps hands clean without the expense of heavy-duty chemical gloves. Poly gloves are particularly useful for growers who need to move quickly between tasks — handling substrate, checking root development, adjusting drippers — where the protection needed is against light contamination rather than chemical hazard. Their loose-fitting format allows them to be pulled on and off quickly and disposed of when the task is complete, maintaining hand cleanliness throughout the growing session.
Appropriate Applications, Limitations, and PPE Best Practice
Use poly gloves for general plant handling, substrate management, dry nutrient application, and light growing media work. Do not use for handling concentrated pesticides, strong cleaning acids, or any substance requiring chemical-resistant glove protection — poly film provides no protection against organic solvent penetration or chemical splash. For chemical cleaning and pesticide application, always select nitrile gloves rated for the specific chemical in use. Poly gloves are single-use and should be disposed of after each growing session rather than washed and reused, as the thin film material does not hold up to washing and the contamination barrier is compromised once removed and turned inside out. Keeping a box of poly gloves accessible in the grow room makes it practical to maintain hand hygiene throughout the growing session.
