Description
CAN-Fan 4 Amp Satellite Controller is a dedicated fan speed controller that we have been supplying to UK growers since 2017 for use with CAN-Fan and compatible EC (electronically commutated) inline extraction fans. Unlike basic triac dimmers, the CAN-Fan satellite controller communicates directly with the fan’s onboard electronics, allowing smooth, stepless speed regulation from minimum to maximum without the harmonic interference, heat generation or motor damage associated with generic fan controllers. Precise fan control is essential for balancing extraction rate, grow room temperature and CO₂ replenishment as conditions change throughout the day and season.
Why a Dedicated EC Fan Controller Outperforms Generic Dimmers
Standard light-dimmer style fan controllers work by chopping the AC waveform — a technique that generates electrical noise, causes motor heating and can significantly shorten the lifespan of variable-speed fans not designed for triac control. CAN-Fan EC motors are designed to receive digital speed signals and respond with precise RPM adjustment at any point in the operating range. The satellite controller sends a 0–10V or PWM signal directly to the fan’s control input, delivering clean, efficient speed regulation without any of the drawbacks of waveform-chopping dimmers. This extends fan motor life, reduces noise at low speeds and gives you far finer control over your extraction rate — important when dialling in temperature and humidity targets in a sealed or CO₂-supplemented grow room.
Compatibility and Installation
The CAN-Fan Satellite Controller is compatible with CAN-Fan Max-Fan Pro series and other CAN-Fan EC motor units. Confirm compatibility with your specific fan model before purchase. Installation is straightforward — the controller connects via the fan’s dedicated control port and mounts externally to the grow room or duct housing. For climate-responsive automation, pair with a digital thermostat/hygrostat controller that can send a variable signal to the satellite controller, allowing automatic fan speed adjustment based on temperature or humidity set points.
