CAN-Fan EC QMax Speed and Temperature Controller is an intelligent climate controller that we have been supplying to UK growers since 2017 for fully automated management of CAN-Fan EC extraction systems. Unlike basic speed controllers that require manual adjustment, the QMax combines stepless fan speed control with an integrated temperature sensor and automatic control logic — increasing fan speed when the grow room temperature rises above your set point and reducing it when temperatures fall back into range. The result is a self-regulating extraction system that maintains your target climate without constant manual intervention.

How the QMax Automates Grow Room Temperature Management

The QMax controller operates on a simple but highly effective principle: it continuously reads the temperature probe positioned in your grow room canopy zone and compares it against your programmed set point. When temperature exceeds the set point, the controller ramps fan speed upward proportionally, increasing air extraction and cooling the space. As temperature drops back into range, fan speed is reduced — saving energy during cool periods and minimising noise when full extraction is not required. The minimum fan speed can be set independently so that the fan never drops below a defined baseline, ensuring continuous fresh air exchange and CO₂ replenishment even at minimum load. This proportional control approach is far more precise and energy-efficient than simple on/off thermostatic fan control.

Compatibility, Installation and Set-Up

The CAN-Fan QMax controller is designed for use with CAN-Fan Max-Fan Pro EC series fans and other compatible EC motor units — confirm compatibility with your fan model before purchase. The temperature probe connects directly to the controller unit and should be positioned in the mid-canopy zone for accurate representative readings. Min and max fan speed and temperature set point are adjusted via the front panel controls. For humidity-responsive control as well as temperature, pair with a separate hygrostat or a combined temperature/humidity controller with 0–10V output. Combine with a Phresh carbon filter for a complete, automatically managed odour-control and climate extraction system.
