Description

CANNA Mono Iron 1 Litre is a professional single-element iron supplement that we have been supplying to UK growers since 2017 for targeted correction of iron deficiency — one of the most common micronutrient deficiencies encountered in hydroponic and coco growing, particularly at higher pH values. As a mono-nutrient product from CANNA, it delivers a pure, highly concentrated and chelated iron source that integrates into existing nutrient programmes without introducing competing elements that could complicate overall nutrition management.

Diagnosing and Correcting Iron Deficiency

Iron deficiency presents as interveinal chlorosis on new growth — the youngest leaves yellow between the veins while the veins themselves remain green, a pattern that distinguishes it from magnesium deficiency which affects older leaves first. Iron is essential for chlorophyll synthesis and for the electron transport chains in both photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Without adequate iron, photosynthetic efficiency drops, growth slows and the plant’s ability to produce ATP energy for all metabolic processes is compromised. Iron deficiency is most commonly triggered not by insufficient iron in the nutrient solution but by pH values above 6.5 in hydroponic media — at which point iron precipitates out of solution as insoluble iron hydroxides and becomes unavailable to the plant. CANNA Mono Iron uses a chelated iron form (typically Fe-EDTA or Fe-DTPA) that remains soluble and plant-available over a wider pH range than unchelated iron salts.

Application, pH Management and Programme Compatibility

Before applying mono iron, first verify reservoir pH — correct any pH elevation above 6.2 in hydroponic growing, as iron will continue to precipitate at high pH regardless of supplementation. Apply CANNA Mono Iron at small incremental doses (0.1–0.5 ml per litre) while monitoring for signs of recovery. Always dilute thoroughly in a large volume of water before adding to the reservoir. Compatible with all CANNA nutrient ranges and most third-party hydroponic programmes. For growers experiencing repeated iron deficiency, consider switching to a base nutrient with a higher chelated iron fraction such as SHOGUN Samurai Hydro or CANNA Aqua A&B, alongside pH management as the primary corrective measure.
