Description

Clonex 50ml is a hormone rooting gel developed by Growth Technology that has become the standard choice for taking cuttings across professional and amateur horticulture. With a rooting hormone concentration of 3,000 parts per million, Clonex provides the right signal to stimulate rapid root initiation at the base of a fresh cutting. Unlike powder formulations, the gel consistency means it adheres directly to the cut stem surface rather than being washed away by early irrigation, and it seals the wound tissue immediately on application to reduce the risk of air embolism and pathogen entry.

Why Clonex Remains the Industry Standard Rooting Gel

There are many rooting products available, but Clonex has maintained its position as the most widely used rooting gel in UK horticulture for good reason. The gel formulation solves several problems at once. It creates a physical seal around the cut surface, prevents the rooting hormone from being washed away by early watering, and keeps the active ingredient in direct contact with the stem throughout the rooting period rather than dissipating into the growing medium. The 3,000ppm IBA (indole-3-butyric acid) concentration is well established as the optimal rate for most woody and semi-woody cuttings.

How to Use Clonex for High Strike Rates

Take your cutting cleanly with a sharp, sterile blade. Remove lower leaves to leave a clear stem length of at least 3–4 cm. Dip the cut end into the Clonex gel immediately after taking the cutting — do not allow the cut surface to air dry before dipping, as this reduces hormone absorption. Insert the gel-coated stem into your chosen rooting medium (Rockwool, coco, or perlite all work well) and maintain humidity of 75–85% with temperatures of 22–26°C until roots develop.

The 50ml size is well suited to hobby growers and smaller propagation operations taking cuttings on a regular basis. Keep the lid sealed and store in a cool location out of direct light to maximise shelf life.
