How Root!T Rooting Gel Works

Root!T Rooting Gel contains a plant hormone compound — indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) — at a concentration optimised for soft-stemmed cuttings from indoor garden plants. When the cut end of a fresh cutting is dipped into the gel, the IBA is absorbed into the stem tissue at the wound site and stimulates the formation of root initiation cells — the precursors to the root primordia that will eventually emerge as visible roots. The gel format ensures the hormone remains in direct, continuous contact with the cut surface throughout the rooting period, providing a sustained stimulus rather than the brief exposure that powder or liquid products provide.

The gel also contains a mild disinfectant component that reduces the risk of bacterial contamination at the vulnerable cut surface — a common cause of stem rot in cuttings that fail to root before pathogen colonisation occurs.

Taking Cuttings: Best Practice

Take cuttings from healthy mother plants during the mid-vegetative stage. Make a clean, angled cut just below a leaf node, trim lower leaves to reduce water loss, and immediately dip the cut end into Root!T Rooting Gel to a depth of 10–15mm. Place in your prepared propagation medium — rockwool cube, Root Riot plug, or perlite — and cover with a humidity dome. Maintain 22–25°C and 75–85% relative humidity until roots emerge.
