The Science Behind Hydrogen Peroxide in Hydroponics

Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) decomposes into water and oxygen. In a hydroponic reservoir, this decomposition releases oxygen directly into the nutrient solution and creates a brief burst of reactive oxygen species that are lethal to anaerobic pathogens — the bacteria and algae that thrive in the warm, dark, nutrient-rich environment of a recirculating hydroponic system. Diseases like Pythium (root rot) are caused by anaerobic water moulds that establish in poorly oxygenated root zones and reservoir conditions. Regular Clear Mist use maintains oxygen levels high enough to prevent Pythium and similar anaerobic pathogens from gaining a foothold. It also prevents the biofilm formation on reservoir walls, pipework, and channel surfaces that is a precursor to more serious system contamination. How to Use Clear Mist Effectively

Add Clear Mist to your nutrient reservoir at the recommended dosage per litre, diluted to the appropriate concentration for maintenance or shock treatment. For routine reservoir maintenance, use at the lower maintenance dosage with each reservoir change. For active root disease treatment or system sterilisation between cycles, use at the higher shock dosage. Clear Mist is not compatible with beneficial microbial inoculants — do not use alongside products containing beneficial bacteria or mycorrhizae, as the oxidising action will eliminate both harmful and beneficial microorganisms indiscriminately. Use as a standalone hygiene measure or as a component of a conventional (non-biological) growing programme.
