Breathable polypropylene construction air-prunes roots through the walls even at this scale, improving root architecture and nutrient uptake efficiency compared to solid-walled containers of equivalent volume. Supports year-long outdoor growing cycles without transplanting. Washable and reusable.

At this scale, a few practical points make the difference between the pot performing as intended and underperforming despite the larger volume. Positioning matters: once filled and watered, a 65-gallon Smart Pot is heavy and effectively immovable, so decide on its final position before filling rather than after. Elevate it slightly off solid ground on pot feet or a saucer where possible — direct contact with concrete or paving can restrict the air-pruning effect at the base of the pot and create a damp interface that invites pests. Watering large fabric pots differs from watering solid containers: because the fabric drains and evaporates from the entire surface area rather than just the drainage holes in the base, large Smart Pots dry faster at the edges than solid-walled equivalents of the same volume, so check moisture at multiple points rather than relying on a single reading near the centre. For trees, perennials or long-season crops, this is usually the container you graduate into once a plant has outgrown a 30- or 45-gallon pot and root-bound symptoms start limiting further growth.
