Ecothrive Life-Cycle 5kg is a premium organic soil amendment and soil food web activator that we have been recommending to UK organic and living soil growers since 2017. Based around the biology of insect frass — the nutrient-rich castings and exuviae produced by Black Soldier Fly larvae — Life-Cycle delivers a uniquely complex blend of nitrogen, phosphorus, chitin and beneficial soil microorganisms that transform the biological activity of any growing medium. Why Insect Frass Is a Game-Changer for Living Soil Growing

Insect frass contains chitin — the structural polysaccharide found in insect exoskeletons — that has a remarkable and well-documented effect on plant defence responses. When chitin is detected in the root zone, plants activate systemic acquired resistance (SAR), producing natural defensive compounds that harden cell walls, improve pest and disease resistance and enhance overall plant immunity. This chitin response, combined with the broad-spectrum microbial inoculant present in Life-Cycle’s frass base, creates a uniquely stimulating root environment. The nitrogen in frass is predominantly in organic form, releasing gradually as soil microorganisms mineralise it — providing a sustained, slow-release feed that avoids the nutrient flush-and-crash cycle associated with synthetic nutrients. How to Use Ecothrive Life-Cycle in Soil and Coco

Incorporate Life-Cycle into your soil mix at 1–2% by volume when building a living soil blend, or top-dress established containers at 5–10g per litre of container volume every 2–4 weeks. It can also be made into a tea by steeping 10g per litre in aerated water for 24–48 hours and applying directly to the root zone. Compatible with all soil and coco growing media and pairs exceptionally well with Ecothrive Charge (also frass-based) and Plagron Bat Mix for a complete organic growing system. Do not use with strong hydrogen peroxide or chemical sterilants that would damage the biological component.
