Description

Ecothrive Neutralise is a professional dechlorination and chloramine removal product that we have been supplying to UK growers since 2017 for treating tap water before use in hydroponic systems and organic growing programmes where living biology in the root zone is central to the growing approach. UK municipal tap water is treated with chlorine or chloramine as a disinfectant — essential for safe drinking water but highly damaging to the beneficial bacteria, mycorrhizal fungi and other microorganisms that form the biological foundation of bioponic, organic and living soil growing systems.

Chlorine and Chloramine: Why Tap Water Needs Treatment for Organic Growing

Chlorine dissipates from still water over 24 hours through off-gassing — leaving water overnight before use is a traditional low-tech treatment. Chloramine, however, does not off-gas and is increasingly used by UK water utilities as a more persistent alternative to chlorine. Standard off-gassing, activated carbon filtration and even UV treatment are largely ineffective against chloramine. Ecothrive Neutralise uses sodium thiosulphate chemistry to chemically neutralise both chlorine and chloramine instantly on contact — a single dose converts both compounds into harmless chloride and sulphate ions that have no antimicrobial activity and pose no risk to beneficial soil biology. In programmes using DYNOMYCO, Voodoo Juice Plus, BioBizz products or any other biology-dependent growing system, treating tap water with Neutralise before adding nutrients or biology protects the investment in biological inoculants from being killed by the tap water itself.

Application Rate and When to Use It

Add Ecothrive Neutralise to tap water before mixing nutrients or any biological products — typically 0.4ml per 10 litres of tap water (confirm with product label for current concentration). No pH adjustment required after treatment. Use whenever tap water is used to make up nutrient solution in any growing system that contains or will receive biological inoculants, beneficial bacteria products or organic nutrients.
