Description

Gold Label 60/40 Mix is a pre-blended growing medium combining 60% Gold Label 8–16mm Hydrocorn clay pebbles with 40% Gold Label coco coir in a ready-to-use 45-litre bag. The blend has been developed specifically for ebb and flood (flood and drain) systems, though it also performs exceptionally well in run-to-waste coco setups and hand-watered containers. It delivers the best characteristics of both substrates together — the water-holding capacity and buffered nutrition of coco, alongside the drainage, aeration, and root support provided by premium Dutch clay pebbles.

Why a 60/40 Hydrocorn and Coco Blend Works So Well

Pure coco can hold moisture for longer than some plants need between irrigation cycles, increasing the risk of overwatering and anaerobic conditions in the root zone. Pure clay pebbles drain immediately and require very frequent irrigation to prevent the roots from drying out. The 60/40 blend balances these characteristics: the clay pebble fraction opens up the substrate and creates strong air porosity, while the coco fraction retains enough moisture and nutrients to buffer against dry-out between feed cycles. The result is a substrate that is forgiving to water, supports excellent root development, and responds well to both automated and hand-watered feeding schedules.

Gold Label Quality: Pre-Washed, Pre-Buffered

Gold Label uses only virgin Dutch Hydrocorn in the 8–16mm size range, giving consistent particle size and strong root penetration throughout the growing medium. The coco component is fully washed and buffered before blending, removing excess sodium and potassium that can interfere with calcium and magnesium uptake in the early stages of growth. This pre-buffering means you can feed at normal calcium levels from day one without the heavy CalMag loading that unbuffered coco typically requires.
