Description
Root Riot Pre-Soaked Cubes are one of the most widely used and trusted propagation media in UK horticulture, manufactured from composted, sustainably sourced organic material and pre-soaked in a specially formulated propagation solution that promotes root development from the first moment a seed or cutting makes contact with the cube. Root Riot’s organic composition creates a natural, sponge-like structure that holds the ideal balance of moisture and oxygen in the root zone without any preparation required from the grower.
What Makes Root Riot Cubes So Effective
Root Riot cubes are manufactured from composted bark with a foam-like structure that naturally mimics the air-to-water ratio of a healthy soil environment. This structure means the cubes hold moisture consistently without becoming waterlogged — maintaining the oxygenated conditions that drive rapid root initiation. The pre-soaking solution contains a blend of root-promoting compounds and organic nutrients at seedling-appropriate concentrations, providing immediate nutrition to germinating seeds and freshly taken cuttings. The pH of Root Riot cubes is naturally buffered to approximately 5.5–6.5 — the range within which most plant species can access all essential nutrients effectively. We have been supplying Root Riot products at The Horticulture Company since 2017. They are consistently one of our highest-rated propagation products, with growers across every experience level reporting high germination rates and reliable rooting times when using Root Riot correctly.
How to Use Root Riot Cubes and Transplanting Tips
The cubes arrive individually pre-moistened and ready to use immediately. For seed germination, push the seed to the correct depth in the pre-formed hole in each cube, place in a propagation tray, cover with a dome, and maintain temperatures of 20–25°C. For cuttings, prepare them in the standard way, dip in a rooting gel or powder if desired, and insert directly into the cube’s central hole. Keep the cubes moist but never saturated. Between waterings, allow the surface to dry slightly before re-wetting. This wet-dry cycle encourages roots to extend outward in search of moisture — driving faster, more vigorous root development. When roots are visible at the base and sides of the cube, transplant by placing the entire cube into your chosen medium. Root Riot cubes integrate seamlessly with soil, coco coir, clay pebbles, and rockwool slabs.
