Description
Root !T 60 Plug Propagator is a professional-standard propagation system that we have been recommending to UK growers since 2017 for striking cuttings and germinating seeds with high success rates. Containing 60 individual Root !T natural rooting sponge plugs in a purpose-designed propagation tray, this kit provides everything needed to start up to 60 cuttings or seedlings simultaneously in a clean, controlled environment. Root !T’s foam matrix is specifically engineered to support rooting without the compaction, waterlogging or pH instability associated with Jiffy pellets or loose propagation media.
Why Root !T Foam Plugs Outperform Traditional Propagation Media
Root !T propagation sponges are manufactured from a phenolic foam with an open-cell structure that holds moisture while maintaining excellent air porosity — the same principle that makes rockwool effective, but without the sharp fibres and alkaline pH issues that complicate rockwool preparation. Each plug holds water and oxygen at the ideal ratio for root initiation: moist enough for callus formation and early root development, aerated enough to prevent the anaerobic conditions that promote stem rot at the base of cuttings. The foam is pre-buffered to a near-neutral pH, minimising preparation time and reducing the variables that can cause inconsistent rooting outcomes. In our experience, growers switching from jiffy pellets or loose perlite/vermiculite mixes to Root !T plugs typically see improved rooting rates and faster, more uniform callus formation.
How to Use the Root !T 60 Plug Propagator
Pre-soak the plugs in pH-adjusted water (pH 5.5–6.0) until fully saturated, then drain to remove excess water. Take cuttings from healthy mother plants (3–5cm, cut below a node at 45°), apply rooting gel or powder to the cut end and insert into the plug. Place the tray in a warm propagation environment — 22–26°C, 80–90% humidity — and apply gentle light (T5 or LED propagation panel at 50–75 cm). Roots typically emerge from the plugs in 7–14 days depending on species and conditions. Root !T plugs transplant directly into all growing media including coco, rockwool, clay pebbles and soil. Pair with Clonex rooting gel and a Root !T heat mat for maximum rooting success rates.
