Description
Round Grey Disc Airstone is a flat, circular air diffuser designed for shallow reservoir trays, flood tables, and wide-base growing containers where a straight cylindrical airstone cannot be positioned effectively. We have been supplying airstones in various formats to UK hydroponic growers since 2017, and the disc airstone format fills a specific practical need in system configurations where standard cylindrical stones are not the right fit.
Fine Bubble Oxygenation in Shallow Systems
The disc format of this airstone maximises the surface area of bubble production relative to its height, making it ideal for shallow flood and drain trays, coco slab trays, or nutrient film trays where only a few centimetres of depth is available at the base of the system. The grey porous stone produces fine, even bubbles across the full disc face when connected to a suitable air pump, providing thorough oxygenation across the base of your reservoir or growing tray.
Consistent oxygenation at the root zone prevents the development of anaerobic conditions in any standing or recirculating nutrient solution, supporting aerobic root health and inhibiting the pathogens — particularly Pythium — that thrive in low-oxygen environments. Even in systems with strong recirculation pumps, supplementary aeration from a disc airstone adds dissolved oxygen that supports root health and microbial diversity.
Maintenance and Compatibility
Connect to any standard air pump using flexible airline tubing with a standard 4mm or 6mm barb fitting. Position the disc flat on the base of your reservoir or tray for maximum bubble column effect. Clean between grow cycles with diluted citric acid to remove mineral scale from the porous stone surface, which would otherwise reduce bubble output over time.
Compatible with all air pump sizes — match pump output to reservoir volume for effective oxygenation. Pair with a quality air pump, airline tubing and an air distribution manifold if running multiple airstones across a larger system. A practical and inexpensive component for maintaining optimal dissolved oxygen levels in any hydroponic configuration.
