Description
Square Saucer for 11 Litre Pot is a purpose-sized drip tray that we have been supplying to UK indoor growers since 2017, dimensioned to fit precisely beneath 11-litre square growing containers. As with all correctly sized saucers, the 11-litre pot saucer serves the dual purpose of keeping grow room floors clean and dry while providing a contained collection point for nutrient solution runoff — allowing the grower to monitor irrigation volume and runoff EC as indicators of substrate management efficiency.
Runoff Management and Why It Matters in Coco Growing
In run-to-waste coco growing — one of the most productive and widely used growing approaches in UK indoor horticulture — every watering event delivers a calculated excess of nutrient solution that passes through the growing medium and drains as runoff from the container base. This runoff carries away accumulated mineral salts that would otherwise build up in the growing medium and cause osmotic stress. Monitoring runoff EC against the applied solution EC gives the grower direct insight into substrate salt accumulation: if runoff EC is significantly higher than input EC, mineral salt is building up in the medium and more frequent plain water flushes are needed. A correctly sized saucer collects this runoff cleanly and makes it easy to test with an EC pen — a 30-second check that provides valuable data on substrate health. This saucer fits standard 11-litre square pots including the Wilma system pots.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Empty saucers after each watering and wipe clean every 1–2 weeks to prevent mineral scale build-up and algae growth. Sterilise between crop cycles with dilute bleach or hydrogen peroxide solution, rinse thoroughly and dry before reuse. For larger containers, use the correctly sized saucer to ensure runoff containment. Pair with an EC meter for runoff EC testing and a 25-litre square pot and saucer set for plants that will grow to fill a larger volume as the crop develops.
