Description

VICTORIAN BELL CLOCHE PACK OF THREE is the classic, elegant frost and pest protection solution for UK kitchen gardeners, allotment holders, and ornamental gardeners who want to extend their growing season at both ends of the year. We have been supplying garden protection accessories to UK growers and horticulturalists since 2017, and the bell cloche remains one of the most satisfying and practical tools in the traditional grower’s kit.

Why Bell Cloches Have Stood the Test of Time

The bell cloche’s dome shape creates a small but effective microclimate over individual plants — trapping warmth from the soil and daytime sun, protecting against frost down to around -3°C on still nights, and keeping off wind, heavy rain, and early flying pest species that emerge before gardeners are thinking about covering plants. For early brassica plants, lettuce, and salad seedlings transplanted out in late February or March, a bell cloche can make the difference between a plant that struggles and bolts and one that establishes strongly before the weather turns fully warm. The glass or heavy-duty clear plastic construction transmits maximum light so plants do not etiolate under cover.

How to Use Bell Cloches Effectively

Place bell cloches over transplants or direct-sown seeds immediately after planting, pressing the base gently into the soil surface to prevent wind displacement. On warm sunny days above 12°C, lift or tilt the cloche to ventilate and prevent heat build-up inside the dome. Water through the open ventilation point or remove and replace the cloche after watering. As plants grow and begin to touch the glass, it is time to remove the cloche entirely and let the plant adapt to outdoor conditions — this hardening-off process should happen gradually over five to seven days if the weather is still cold. Store cloches in a protected location between seasons to prevent cracking from frost.

Use Victorian Bell Cloche Pack of Three alongside horticultural fleece and slug traps for complete early-season plant protection in your kitchen garden or allotment.
