90° METAL BEND

Description

90° Metal Bend is a rigid metal ducting elbow providing a precise 90-degree change of direction for solid ducting runs in grow room extraction and ventilation systems. We have been supplying ventilation components and ducting fittings to UK growers since 2017, and metal duct bends are the correct choice for permanent, high-airflow system installations where flexible aluminium ducting would cause unacceptable flow restriction through a tight corner.

Maintaining Airflow Through Direction Changes

Every bend in an extraction system reduces airflow by adding resistance. Flexible aluminium ducting bent through 90 degrees loses significantly more airflow than a properly engineered metal bend of the same diameter, because the flexible ducting collapses slightly on the inside of the bend and expands on the outside, creating turbulence and a constricted cross-section that increases static pressure. A rigid 90-degree metal bend maintains the full circular cross-section of your ducting throughout the turn, minimising flow restriction and ensuring your fan operates at or near its rated performance.

In professionally designed grow room ventilation systems — particularly those using large-diameter ducting (200mm, 250mm, 315mm) and high-output fans — replacing flexible bends with metal bends at each major direction change can make a measurable difference to total system airflow, allowing you to run fans at lower speeds for the same air exchange rate, which reduces noise and extends fan lifespan.

Sizing and Installation

Select the metal bend diameter to match your existing ducting — it must be a precise fit to your duct size for an airtight connection at the joint. Seal both connections with duct tape or metal foil tape for an airtight, professionally finished installation. Mount securely to prevent the weight of the metal fitting from stressing the ducting joints on either side.
