Description
NEEM OIL 100ML is the natural, plant-derived pest and disease management solution that UK growers have used for decades to control soft-bodied pest insects, spider mites, and fungal disease pressure without the residue concerns associated with synthetic pesticide treatments. We have been recommending Neem Oil to UK growers since 2017 as a versatile, multipurpose plant protection product that fits naturally into an integrated pest management programme.
How Neem Oil Controls Pests and Disease in the Grow Room
Neem oil is derived from the seeds of the Azadirachta indica tree and contains the active compound azadirachtin alongside a range of other naturally occurring terpenoids. Azadirachtin is a powerful insect growth regulator — it disrupts the moulting hormones of insects, preventing larvae from developing through their normal life stages and interrupting reproduction. Applied as a foliar spray, neem oil also creates a physical barrier on leaf surfaces that deters feeding by soft-bodied insects including aphids, whitefly, and spider mites, and the antifungal properties of neem oil components make it effective against early-stage powdery mildew and other fungal disease pressure. The systemic uptake of azadirachtin provides ongoing internal protection that surface-contact insecticides cannot replicate. As a plant-derived product, neem oil breaks down rapidly in the environment and does not accumulate in plant tissue at the rates associated with synthetic systemic insecticides.
Preparation, Application, and Safe Use
Neem oil does not mix directly with water — an emulsifier is required to create a stable spray solution. Mix with warm water and a small amount of pH-neutral liquid soap or purpose-made emulsifier, agitate thoroughly, and apply immediately as neem oil emulsions separate on standing. Spray to both upper and lower leaf surfaces for thorough coverage, applying during the dark period or under low light to prevent photodegradation of active compounds and reduce leaf temperature during application. Apply every five to seven days during active pest or disease pressure, and as a preventative measure every two weeks throughout the vegetative phase. The 100ml format is economical for home growers. Avoid applying during the final weeks before harvest. Browse our full range of pest control products, biological agents, and plant protection solutions for a complete IPM programme.
