Dr Hydro Thrips Protection Spray 500ml Concentrate is a highly effective, plant-safe insecticide that we have been supplying to UK indoor growers since 2017 as a front-line defence against Western Flower Thrips and other thrips species. Thrips are one of the most damaging pests in controlled-environment horticulture — they rasp leaf tissue, transmit viruses and can establish rapidly in warm grow rooms. This concentrate delivers consistent, reliable knockdown and residual protection when used correctly as part of an integrated pest management programme.
How Dr Hydro Thrips Spray Eliminates Thrips
The concentrate works through contact and ingestion, disrupting the nervous system of thrips at larval and adult stages. The formulation includes a spreader-sticker component that ensures even coverage across leaf surfaces including the undersides where thrips larvae feed and shelter. Unlike some broad-spectrum pesticides, Dr Hydro’s active system is designed to minimise impact on beneficial insects when applied as directed, making it suitable for IPM programmes that incorporate predatory mites such as Amblyseius cucumeris. Early intervention at first signs of silvery streaking on leaves or black frass deposits dramatically improves control outcomes.
Dilution, Application and Safety
Dilute at the manufacturer’s recommended rate — typically 5–10 ml per litre of water — and apply as a fine mist to all plant surfaces, paying particular attention to growing tips and leaf undersides where populations concentrate. Apply in the lights-off period or during low-light conditions to avoid phytotoxicity. Do not apply during flowering if trichome integrity is a concern. Repeat applications every 5–7 days until the infestation is cleared. Always wear gloves and eye protection when handling concentrates.
