Why Correct pH Is the Foundation of Good Growing
Every mineral nutrient your plant needs exists in a form available for uptake only within a specific pH range. Phosphorus, iron, zinc, manganese and boron all become increasingly unavailable as pH rises above the optimal range. If your nutrient solution pH drifts too alkaline — which is common with hard UK tap water — your plants progressively lose access to critical nutrients regardless of how well-formulated your base nutrient is. pH DOWN — a phosphoric or nitric acid-based solution — allows you to correct elevated pH quickly and precisely, restoring the optimal uptake window before deficiency symptoms develop.

Never mix concentrated pH solutions together directly — always add to water. Use a calibrated pH meter to verify pH after each adjustment, and allow readings to stabilise before making further additions.
Pairs with pH UP for complete bidirectional pH management, calibration buffer solutions (pH 4.0 and 7.0) for regular meter maintenance, and a quality pipette or syringe for precise small-volume dosing. An absolute essential for any nutrient-feeding growing programme.
