How the Airline Tee Expands Your Aeration System
Most entry-level air pumps have a single outlet — sufficient for one air stone in one DWC bucket or one propagation reservoir. As a grow room expands to two or more aerated sites, the options are to add a second pump or to use a tee fitting to split the existing pump’s output to two locations. With a small single-outlet pump of moderate capacity, a tee fitting allows two small air stones to run simultaneously at reduced individual flow — adequate for propagation units and small reservoirs where even gentle aeration is significantly better than none. For larger systems where both sites need full airflow, invest in a twin-outlet pump rather than splitting a single-outlet pump below the threshold of effective aeration.
Fitting and Maintaining Airline Tee Connectors
Push 4mm airline firmly onto each of the tee’s three barbed outlets, ensuring each line seats fully home against the barb shoulder for a secure, air-tight connection. Check all connections are drip-free on first pressurising — airline tees in pressurised air systems very occasionally develop slow leaks at undersized connections. Replace any tee that shows cracks or brittleness — old plastic airline fittings become brittle over time in the UV and ozone environment of an active grow room. Keep a supply of tee and elbow fittings in your grow room spares kit so no connection failure causes an avoidable interruption to aeration.
