Description

AutoPot Silicone for AQUAvalve 5 Top Float is a genuine AutoPot replacement sealing component that we have been supplying to UK growers since 2017 for servicing and maintaining AQUAvalve 5 assemblies. The top float silicone seal is the upper seating component in the AQUAvalve 5 mechanism — it creates the watertight closure that prevents nutrient solution from continuing to flow into the tray once the float has risen to the valve’s set level. Preventive Maintenance of the AQUAvalve 5

The AQUAvalve 5 operates thousands of open/close cycles over the course of a growing season — every time the tray empties and refills, the float valve opens and closes once. The silicone top float seal experiences this mechanical cycling continuously, and over time the compression from repeated valve seating can cause the silicone to develop a permanent set (compression set) that prevents a complete seal. When this happens, the valve leaks slightly — allowing the tray to fill above its set level or causing a slow drip that keeps the growing medium saturated between feed cycles. Replacing the top float silicone as a preventive measure — ideally between growing seasons — ensures the valve returns to full sealing performance and prevents the root zone waterlogging that results from an overflowing tray.

Installation Notes and Maintenance Kit Approach

Replace both the top float silicone and the bottom float silicone simultaneously during preventive servicing — both components experience the same wear cycle and replacing one while leaving the other aged increases the likelihood of a recurrence shortly after. Disassemble the AQUAvalve 5 body, remove the old top float silicone from its seat, press the new component firmly into position and reassemble. Test by running the system through a complete fill cycle and observing valve closure behaviour.
