How the AutoPot Tray and Lid System Works

The AutoPot tray creates the shallow reservoir beneath your growing container that is the heart of the AutoPot operating principle. Nutrient solution flows by gravity from an elevated tank through the supply tube, through the AquaValve fitted into the tray lid, and into the tray reservoir. The plant’s roots grow down through drainage holes in the pot and access this reservoir, drawing up moisture and nutrients as required. When the solution level drops to the trigger point, the AquaValve float drops and opens, allowing the reservoir to refill to the correct level before closing again. This simple, passive wet-dry cycle provides ideal root zone conditions — periods of moisture followed by oxygenation — without any timing, pumping, or manual intervention. The lid covers the tray reservoir to prevent algae growth from light exposure and reduces evaporation. The 9mm grommet in the lid accepts the 9mm AutoPot supply tube directly.

How to Set Up the AutoPot Tray and Lid

Place the tray on a flat, level surface — any slope will cause uneven filling and could cause the AquaValve to read falsely. Insert the AquaValve into the dedicated housing in the tray lid. Fit the tray lid onto the tray. Connect the 9mm supply tube from your AutoPot network to the grommet fitting in the lid. Place your growing container on top of the lid. Fill the reservoir tank and open the supply tap. Observe the first filling cycle to confirm the tray fills to the correct level and the AquaValve closes properly. Clean the tray and lid thoroughly between grows using a dilute hydrogen peroxide solution.
