Description

AutoPot XL Root Control Disc is a specially designed fabric disc that sits at the base of AutoPot XL pots, providing air pruning of roots that reach the base of the growing container and preventing the root circling that reduces plant performance in conventional pots. Why Root Control Discs Improve Plant Performance

In a conventional pot without air pruning, roots that reach the pot wall or base begin to circle the container interior, growing parallel to the wall and forming a dense, matted root structure. Circling roots are less efficient at water and nutrient uptake per unit length than actively growing root tips, and in severe cases they can girdle the root ball, restricting the flow of water and nutrients to the whole plant. The AutoPot XL Root Control Disc uses a permeable fabric material at the base of the pot that exposes root tips reaching the base to the drier air environment between the pot base and the tray lid. This air exposure desiccates the root tip, triggering a hormonal response that causes lateral branching behind the pruned tip — generating multiple new root tips rather than one circling root. The result is a dense, fibrous root structure with a far higher surface area to volume ratio than an air-unpruned root system, translating directly into better nutrient uptake, healthier plant growth, and higher yields.

How to Install and Use the AutoPot XL Root Control Disc

Place the Root Control Disc flat at the base of the AutoPot XL pot before filling with growing media. Ensure it sits completely flat without folding up the edges, which would prevent effective root air pruning at the perimeter. Fill the pot with your chosen substrate — coco, clay pebbles, or a blend — over the disc. Set up the AutoPot XL tray and AquaValve system as normal and proceed with your grow. The disc will function passively throughout the grow with no intervention required. Between grows, remove the disc and clean thoroughly or replace if the fabric has become damaged or heavily root-penetrated.
