Description
HAILEA HX8890 is one of Hailea’s highest-flow submersible pumps, designed for large-scale recirculating hydroponic systems, commercial flood-and-drain tables, and large-reservoir DWC setups where substantial flow rate is required to maintain adequate nutrient delivery and oxygenation across multiple growing sites simultaneously. We have been supplying Hailea pumps to UK growers since 2017, and the HX8890’s flow capacity makes it the right choice for growers scaling up to commercial-style production volumes.
HX8890 Flow Rate and Application Scale
The Hailea HX8890 delivers a maximum flow rate of approximately 8,500–8,890 litres per hour at zero head pressure, making it appropriate for flood-and-drain tables of 2.4m x 1.2m or larger, recirculating RDWC systems running eight to sixteen sites from a central sump reservoir, and large NFT systems where maintaining consistent nutrient film flow across the full length of growing channels requires a powerful pump. The magnetic drive impeller construction minimises heat transfer into the nutrient solution — critical in large reservoirs where pump heat contribution can raise overall solution temperature above the 22°C threshold where pythium risk increases and dissolved oxygen levels drop.
Installation, Head Pressure, and Maintenance
At high flow rates, head pressure becomes a significant factor in actual pump performance. For every metre of vertical rise between the pump inlet and the highest delivery point in the system, flow rate reduces approximately 15–25%. Plan your system layout to minimise head height and reduce the number of 90-degree bends in your distribution pipe to maintain the rated flow to all growing sites. Clean the impeller and filter sponge every three to four weeks — at the HX8890’s scale, mineral and organic fouling of the impeller reduces flow rate measurably and should be addressed before it becomes a system-limiting issue.
Pair the Hailea HX8890 with a large flood-and-drain tray, a commercial-grade timer, and CANNA Aqua or Advanced Nutrients Connoisseur base nutrients for a professionally specified large-scale hydroponic growing system.
